Collaborative Math problem-Solving...
The students were placed in pairs and in groups of three this morning and presented with a series of patterning problem-solving questions from previous EQAO tests. They worked so well together giving their brains a stretch and explaining their answers to one another. It was especially exciting to see the Grade 2's rise to the occasion! I was so proud of all my students!
Slimy Pumpkin Fun!
We managed to clean out our class pumpkin today. Thanks to all the 2/3W students who volunteered for this gooey task! Stay tuned for Part 2....

Magnetic Force
Today, the students explored the properties of magnets and did a fun experiment in which they had to use magnetic force to separate paper clips from other items in a cup. At first, they could use direct contact with the magnet to separate the paperclips.
Then they had to separate the paperclips without actually touching them. The students discovered that magnetic force can travel though objects!
We then discussed how magnets act as a pulling force on metals (that contain iron) but that magnets with the same pole repel one another. The students got the chance to feel the pushing force of two same-poled magnets.

Here is a sneak peak at one of the Halloween themed masterpieces these backdrops will be a part of...think witch and wizard fashions...

Visualizing
Today we talked about how visualizing can be an effective strategy to connect to a text.
I then read them the two first stanzas of a very descriptive poem entitled My Neighbour's Dog
The students then drew what they visualized.
Once they had finished their drawings, I read the last stanza of the poem. It provides more details and has an interesting twist!
The students then drew their new visualization based on the entire poem!
Here is the completed bulletin board with the spooky painted crocodiles! The students did a wonderful job at visualizing this bizarre creature!
Star Card Skipping Girls!
Sofia and Lilah cashed in their Star Card Reward today for a recess spent in the gym chasing balls and skipping for joy! Congratulations girls!
