The Joys of Springtime Rivers and Streams!

Many of the students enjoyed forging rivers and streams through the mucky mud today in the bright March sun. Their rivers will be overflowing next week after tomorrow's snowy forecast (sigh)!

The Wonderful World of Plants!

This week we began our study of the incredible world of plants! In our first Mystery, we explored the idea that plants can move around. We learned that plants survive by dispersing their seeds by wind (maples), water (coconuts) and animals (cherries). The students built three seed models and practised dropping the seeds from a height, in order to avoid the dreaded "zone of darkness" (i.e. the shade!)

Here is an action shot of some of the students trying out their rotocopters! These were the best ones- they twirled just like maple keys.

They also made twirlers!

Gliders were the last ones.

Money!

We started the money unit in Math this morning. If you have loose change around the house, ask your child to count it up! It will be terrific practice!

Swim To Survive!

We were sad to bid farewell to Cameron and Brad, our instructors at Sawmill Creek Pool today. They taught the kids some essential water safety and survival skills. They even showed them how to slide out of water if the were to fall through ice. In the activity, the mats represented the ice and the kids had to slide on their bellies to safety.

Getting excited for their last class!

Mr. Jessy

The years are zooming by! I taught Jessy Grade 5 many years ago! He is coming to our school next week to do a 3 weeks placement in Mrs. Ayafor's class for his final year of Teacher's College! He will be a teacher by June!

Multiplication and Division Practice Test

The students wrote a Practice Multiplication and Division Test on Monday which went home with many of them in their yellow duo tangs today. The students will write the actual test on Friday. They can bring back their Math duo tangs then!

What Is It?

The students' creativity and acting skills shone today during a drama activity. We've been focussing on communicating using gestures and facial expressions. The students transformed a roll of paper into a variety of objects using gestures and their imaginations.

Lana grew a sophisticated moustache.

Sahej grew a long goatee!

Lauren peeled a banana.

Ms. Kendra shovelled some heavy snow.

Mirren putted some balls on the colourful golf course.

Markus used his typewriter.

..and Connor played a few mean riffs on his electric guitar!
