Two Truths and a Fib!

Markus's Grandmother has chickens! Connor swam in shark-infested waters ( slight exaggeration!). Rhaven shaved an eyebrow and Josh bravely chased a skunk (NOT). The first day of the "Two Truths and a Fib" presentations were very entertaining!

Island Conquer

The students played a really fun multiplication game yesterday called Island Conquer. They were getting really into it! Here are a few fun pics that capture some of their competitive spirit!

The Rainbow Problem!

The students had a chance to work on their trailers today to promote their published books! Here is a link to Olivia's trailer!

Sekou Kaba

The students were treated to a very inspiring talk by Canadian Olympian hurdler Sekou Kaba who lives and trains here in Ottawa. Using his last name as an acronym, Sekou shared his life philosophy with the students. K is for Kindness. A is for Ask (for help and opportunities). B is for Believe in yourself, and the last A is for Adjust (as in roll with the punches!). He even hopped a hurdle for the adoring crowd!

A reminder that we are skating tomorrow afternoon and that the We Day Committee is selling popcorn for $1 tomorrow (money to be donated)!

Flag Day!

We celebrated Flag Day today singing O'Canada together as a school outside in the February sun!

Published Authors!

Here is a peak at the first batch of published books. The students have been hard at work on these for a couple of weeks. They can bring them home to share with you but we will need them back next week as we will be creating iMovie trailers to promote the books.

Getting Ready for Valentine's Day!

A very generous yet mysterious donor gifted 3W with these Valentine's Day boxes and decorations. The students had so much fun decorating them this afternoon!

Helmet Heads!

Mrs. Sabourin giggled and snapped this pic of us when when she walked by our class this afternoon. We were ready to go skating but sadly, the ice wasn't ready for us due to the storm a couple of days ago! We will try again next week!

Narrative Writing

Many of the students are at the publishing stage of their narratives. They have really been enjoying writing and illustrating their adventure stories.

A reminder that the Grade 3's are skating tomorrow afternoon! Please bring your equipment and dress warmly.

Valentine's Art

Here are the finished hearts that the students made using warm and cool colours.

We learned the word "capacious" while reading the book "Flora and Ulysses".
I have been reading the students this book during snack time over the past couple of months and we have been discovering lots of new vocabulary! Flora has always considered herself a cynic, but her new squirrel friend Ulysses is helping her to discover that she has a capacious heart - a heart with plenty of room for love and other emotions!

Toothpick 3D Models

The students used toothpicks and marshmallows today to make 3D solids. The marshmallows were the vertices and the toothpicks represented the edges of the solids. The consumption of these marshmallows along with the forecasted storm headed our way might explain the collective craziness that overtook our class last block today! The kids were wired!

Rhaven put a few of his together and designed a building.

Josh got ambitious and made a decagonal prism!

Dimitri, Connor and Destin made octahedrons!

Bridge Contest

Congratulations to Markus and Dimitri whose truss bridge held the most pennies!

Class Names for Valentine's Day!

Here is a list of the 3W students for Valentine's Day. I have placed this list in all of the student agendas. There is a total of 19 delightful students!
