We'll Huff and We'll Puff...

Today we discovered that structures become more stable when weight is added to their bases. We filled the base of one cylinder with pennies and soon felt like the Big Bad Wolf when he encountered the pig's brick house!

Geometric Relationships!

Today we had fun creating with 2-D shapes and discovering the relationships between shapes...3 rhombuses can make a hexagon! A rhombus and a triangle can make a trapezoid! Lots of different combinations. It was an extension of the turtle making activity some of the kids did last week during Thursday's Snow Day!

Over the past week, we have been exploring symmetry, types of angles (acute, right, obtuse) and types of lines (intersecting, perpendicular, parallel) during our geometry lessons. Today, pairs were given a shape and asked to discover and record its characteristics. Tomorrow they will present their findings to the rest of the class.

What's Your Word for 2019?

This week, the students chose a word goal for themselves for 2019! Each student thoughtfully chose a word to help them focus on an area of their lives in which they want to improve or grow. Once they chose their word, students explained the reasons for their word choice, and provided action steps on how they will work toward their goal!

Let Me Out!

A group of early finishers built this amazing rectangular prism this morning then decided to lock poor Davio in - as in Go directly to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200! Nothing could stop Davio's strength and willpower and he broke free!

The picture below shows Emily trying to figure out which student is leading the other students to change the rhythm on their drums.Tomorrow, the students will learn the value of quarter, half and eighth notes and use this knowledge to read a variety of rhythms
