Holy Thursday

A HUGE THANK YOU to Mme Micheline and her Grade 6 students who treated us this afternoon to a moving portrayal of The Last Supper.

After recess, her talented students then reenacted the Stations of the Cross. Congratulations to everyone involved - both performances were mesmerizing.

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter!

The 2/3W Von Trapp Children!

As the students explored drawing a variety of colourful patterns for their Britto artwork this morning, they spontaneously started singing from the The Sound of Music! Many of them have been singing this song with Ms. Morris during choir. I put on Julie Andrews in the background and I felt like I was on the Sound of Music movie set with the Von Trapp children! All we needed was the Austrian mountainside!

Romero Britto!

Today was Short French Day which provided us with a wonderful opportunity to begin our study of Brazil! After Alice and Lucas taught us some key Portuguese vocabulary (Oi, Ola, Tchau), we learned about a famous Brazillian artist named Romero Britto. Britto is an artist who uses lots of bright colours and patterns in his work and is known for painting in a  Pop Art style! We found out that Pop Art is a style of art that uses simple and bold images of everyday items, painted in bright colours. Here are a few of Britto's paintings:

Here are a few of the Britto-inspired Pop Art dogs the students began today. Tomorrow they will paint over each different patterned section using watercolours!

Twin/Triplet Day!

A reminder that tomorrow is Twin/Triplet Spirit Day!

Reconciliation

Congratulations to Cameron, Lilah and Lucas who celebrated their First Reconciliation yesterday. A HUGE THANK YOU to Ms. Morris for preparing the Grade 2's so well for this sacrament!

Drama!

We launched our Drama unit this week with a variety of activities which explored voice range and non-verbal expression. In the Magic Stick activity, students used their imaginations and movements to pretend the magic stick (rolled chart paper) was another object. Can you guess the following?

Answers: Olivia is rocking out on her microphone! Brye-Anna is enjoying a candy cane. Alice is on her swing and Dontay has transformed himself into an elephant with a long trunk!

Fantastic Fort!

Many of the kids in the primary yard have been busy building this fantastic fort during recesses this week! Check out the fruits of their collaborative labour!

Hula Hoop Huts!

We played a new game in gym this morning which involved throwing, defending and collaborating to make hula hoop huts - not the most stable structures as the students discovered! The Grade 2's were busy preparing for Reconciliation with Ms. Morris. They will go to gym with her class tomorrow morning to ensure they are getting their exercise! Thanks Ms. Morris!
