Wonder
Today we read the last two chapters of the incredible book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Reading the book aloud to the students over the past couple of months was a powerful and bonding experience for our class. Auggie Pullman, the main character in the book taught us a lot about acceptance, gratitude, friendship and kindness. I think the book inspired all of us to be "kinder than necessary" and to share our light with the world. I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to discover this book with this awesome group of students!
Thanks Ms. Giles
Ms. Giles left this message for the 3W students today as they wrote their final EQAO test! Yippee!

Sprouted Bean Seeds!
We discovered today that bean seeds do not need light to sprout -as the ones in my shoe in the dark cupboard sprouted like crazy!
Probability Experiments
We have been talking probability this week in Math. This morning, the students played a variety of fair and unfair probability games to test the likelihood of winning. They have been practising using probability terms such as certain, impossible, equally likely, likely and unlikely.

Ariana created this awesome prop for the play she is working on with her group! The students are encouraged to make simple props at home and bring them in. Hopefully they have been practising their lines at home as well.
The students will be performing their plays on Thursday, May 18th for any parents who can make it. I can video and post them on the Blog if you are unable to make this date!

Munsch Plays
The students went home yesterday with a copy of their script for their Robert Munsch play. The plan is to have the plays ready for the week of May 15th. The students are asked to memorize their lines over the next couple of weeks in preparation for the performances. We will perform the plays for other classes during that week as well as for any parents who want to see them. Narrators are not expected to memorize their parts.
Zumba and Patterning!
Today we talked about how repeating patterns are used in dance (Zumba) and music. We then got our bodies moving dancing Zumba for our SMY NumerARTcy Day!
Moisture and Light?
Today during Science, we hypothesized whether a seed needs light as well as moisture to sprout.
Each student was then given 2 bean seeds which were placed in moist paper towel, in a baggie and taped to the window.
