Halloween Monsters!
In the spirit of Halloween, the kids created monsters this week out of plasticine! Their creativity was awesome! Their task was to then write a detailed paragraph about their monster using descriptive adjectives as well as sensory language. Next week, we will be reading our descriptions to Ms. Bischof's Grade 5 students and they will have to match the description to the plasticine monster. Here is a glimpse at some of their creations...

The Gruesomely Groovy Gruffalo!
I read the book The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson to the kids today. It is a very descriptive and fun story written in rhyme. We talked about the adjectives used in the story. The kids then coloured their own Gruffalos and generated some of their own adjectives to describe their creations. They came up with some real goodies!

Visualizing
Earlier this week I read the poem "My Neighbour's Dog is Purple" to the students. It is a humourous poem with heaps of descriptive language. After reading the first two stanzas, the students drew their mental image of the dog I had described. After, I read the last stanza out loud. With this added information, the kids then drew their new image of the strange, fierce, purple painted dog!
