The Best Part of Me
Ask your child to explain this unique descriptive writing assignment! The kids did an amazing job at capturing and celebrating the miracle of their healthy bodies in words. This activity was inspired by the book "The Best Part of Me" by Wendy Ewald (and her students).

Zany Characters
Isabelle, Isabella and Julia created these terrific cartoony characters and then wrote descriptive paragraphs about them on the chrome books as an extra activity (wow!). They then created this bulletin board inviting people to match the description to the right character! Can you match them up?

Halloween Monsters!
In the spirit of Halloween, the kids created monsters this week out of plasticine! Their creativity was awesome! Their task was to then write a detailed paragraph about their monster using descriptive adjectives as well as sensory language. Next week, we will be reading our descriptions to Ms. Bischof's Grade 5 students and they will have to match the description to the plasticine monster. Here is a glimpse at some of their creations...

The Gruesomely Groovy Gruffalo!
I read the book The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson to the kids today. It is a very descriptive and fun story written in rhyme. We talked about the adjectives used in the story. The kids then coloured their own Gruffalos and generated some of their own adjectives to describe their creations. They came up with some real goodies!

Visualizing
Earlier this week I read the poem "My Neighbour's Dog is Purple" to the students. It is a humourous poem with heaps of descriptive language. After reading the first two stanzas, the students drew their mental image of the dog I had described. After, I read the last stanza out loud. With this added information, the kids then drew their new image of the strange, fierce, purple painted dog!

Sunday Night Super Moon!
A reminder that the moon will look bigger and brighter on Sunday night! It will be the closest full moon of the year and if it's not cloudy, it will be really spectacular! The lunar eclipse we read about in class will happen later on Sunday night when all the Grade 3 kids are sleeping! We can watch a video of it on Monday...but make sure to peek out your window before you go to bed on Sunday night!

Poetry Books
Over the last week, the students have learned how to write five types of poems: Haiku, Cinquain, Couplet, Acrostic and Diamonte. They have compiled their efforts into a book. Some students chose to do an old-fashioned paper book while others opted to use the Book Creator app on the iPads. Over the next couple of days, I will post their efforts. The book themes vary from animals to sports to many about you guessed it....video games!

Check out these shimmery butterfly creations we completed today. The resulting glitter sprinkled atrium floor outside our class looks like a disco. We might not be too popular with the nighttime custodian after this!

Create Your Own Ad!
Today, each 3A student created a new product and then designed an ad for it using the Book Creator app. The students had to use atleast two advertising techniques we learned about in class (exaggerated claims, catchy slogans or jingles, celebrities, mascots). I will post links to their persuasive ads which encourage people to part with their money and purchase these original products!

Strong and Sturdy Bridges!
I have not been the most committed of bloggers of late! I apologize! Here are some pics of the Popsicle bridges the 3A engineers made! The bridges all passed the 4 kg test! Many groups used triangles to strengthen their designs! Not too sure how we're going to decide who gets to bring them home...
