Ms. Lindsay the Bucket Filler!
Here is Ms. Lindsay and a class made gift we presented to her on Wednesday. The kids picked a colour and placed their thumbprints on the bucket picture to thank her for filling our class bucket! It might be the most colourful gift she gets this year!
Amazing Lightning!
Wow! Another incredible presentation about the force of lightning! Terrific pictures and narration by Tuyet and Sydney!

Here is a link to Tyler's investigation into the force of lightning! Well done Tyler! Make sure to pay attention, as there is a quiz at the end!

Getting Ready for Advent!
The 3A and 3B classes will be leading the Advent Celebration next Monday for the primary classes. Mrs. Kelly helped us prepare today with a terrific discussion about the meaning of Advent!

Warm and Cool Landscapes
After discussing warm and cool colours last Thursday, the kids created these masterpieces. They had to use warm colours (oranges, reds, yellows) for the sky, and only cool ones (greens, blues, purples) for the landscapes (or vice versa). We noticed that when warm colours were used for the sky, it looked like a daytime sky, but when cool colours were used, a nighttime sky was created. The results are stunning!

Just in time for Remembrance Day!
Here is a link to our class book 'What Does Peace Feel Like?', with the 3A artists' voices as well. It's really cute!
What Does Peace Feel Like?
Inspired by the book What Does Peace Feel Like? By Vladimir Radunsky, and in honour of Remembrance Day, the students created pastel drawings illustrating what peace looks, tastes, sounds, smells and feels like to them...

Visualizing!
Today, I read the poem "My Neighbour's Dog is Purple" to the students. It is a humourous poem rich with descriptive language. After reading the first two stanzas, the students drew their mental image of the dog I had described. After, I read the last stanza out loud. With this added information, the kids then drew their new image of the strange, fierce, purple painted dog!

Terry Fox Fundraising!
The 3A class has been awesome helpers during our Terry Fox Fundraising Campaign. They are collecting and counting money, and cheering on the wacky teachers in the if/then challenges (i.e. If we raise $800, Ms. Giles will kiss a goat!). Look at the picture below and how we have already surpassed our $800 goal! I was volunteered to kiss the goat as well today if we reach $1000! As you can see from the photo, we are inching our way to $1000!
Five Dancing Chickens!
The Kindergarten team entertained us in a rousing chicken dance! Everyone joined in for a second dance!
The Sugar Plum Fairy!
Mr. Pope had the school in stitches today. As a reward for having raised $600 for the Terry Fox Foundation, he donned a tutu and pirouetted around the gym for his adoring fans!
Dancing into Grade 3!
Inspired by the book "Giraffes Can't Dance" by Giles Andreae, the students created their own dancing giraffes, using tempera paints and markers!

Sprouted from Seeds!
Many of the students brought their plants home today - hopefully you can find a spot for them to spread their roots and grow! I distributed a combination of spinach and pea seeds - so not sure what you will get! We discovered that seedlings need moisture and warmth to sprout - not light. Our seeds in the dark cupboard sprouted enthusiastically!

Geometric Solids!
I am on a posting frenzy! Here are some of the geometric solids the kids made on Friday using straws and plastecine. We have been exploring pyramids and prisms this week, and discussing their similarities and differences.
Nolan's square-based pyramid. I think he was more excited about the backdrop than the pyramid!
Turtle with Patterning Blocks
Here is a fun activity we did in class a couple of weeks ago that I am just getting aroud to posting now. It's a turtle made using the least number of patterning blocks and then with the most number of blocks. This activity allowed the kids to discover that a hexagon, rhombus, and trapezoid can all be made using triangles!
Swimming on Monday
Just a reminder that the 3A class will be going to Sawmill Creek Pool tomorrow afternoon. Please dig out the swimsuits and beach towels!

No Skating Tomorrow!
Due to the ridiculous deep freeze that has us in its icy grip, the Grade 3 classes will not be skating tomorrow. We'll pray for warmer weather next week!

Winter Wonderland!
Bring on the snow! The 3A students' enthusiasm for winter and its delights are captured in these lovely paintings! We are looking forward to some nice winter weather as we plan to skate every Thursday afternoon with the 3B class! We are also excited about the upcoming field trip on February 3rd to Jacques Cartier Park for Winterlude. Permissions forms for both these activities have been sent home!
